TruSignal SpO2 technology proves accurate in challenging conditions of patient motion and low perfusion

An accurate assessment of a patient’s blood oxygenation is a key to helping clinicians choose the best course of treatment. But how accurate is pulse oximetry (SpO2) under challenging conditions encountered in the real world? In a clinical study, TruSignalTM SpO2 technology from GE Healthcare met the challenge of accuracy in the face of motion artifacts and low-perfusion conditions that can affect pulse oximetry readings.

In the study, a GE CARESCAPETM V100 vital signs monitor with an OhmedaTM TruSignal OEM board was tested with 11 patients under normal conditions and under the challenging conditions of low perfusion, motion and non-motion. The results showed that the SpO2 accuracy of the TruSignal technology was better than the requirement of the ISO 9919 standard. This reliable accuracy helps ensure that clinicians can confidently determine optimal treatment plans for patients in a wide range of clinical conditions.
