The value of ST trend analysis for detecting and treating myocardial ischemia1
An 81-year old man with recent myocardial infarction exhibited ischemic pulmonary edema and acute abdominal symptoms. After a laparatomy he was admitted to the ICU with septic shock requiring dobutamine and noradrenaline infusions. Monitoring of trends in the ST segment enabled rapid detection of myocardial ischemia and rapid response after treatment with a nitroglycerine infusion.
