MELBOURNE, AUSTRALIA — March 19 2026 — GE HealthCare announced that the first Command Center in the Southern Hemisphere is now operating at The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital, where it is known as ORA, to help manage patient volumes and complex cases efficiently.
ORA provides real-time visibility of each of the hospital’s resources. It helps management and clinical teams stay more connected and better informed, anticipating resource requirements before they impact patient care.
ORA's real-time data has enabled leadership to manage resources more effectively, tracking workforce availability, and supporting more proactive decision-making. It has improved clinicians’ ability to coordinate patient care by streamlining patient flow, bed capacity, and alerts from electronic health records — data that is historically dispersed among different parts of hospitals is now available on a single source.
ORA connects data from existing hospital systems and applies advanced analytics to deliver real-time, actionable insights. In an acute care context where orders, results, locations and statuses are changing constantly, real-time data is key to timely progression of care.
ORA View has been embedded into daily clinical and operational meetings. By providing a health service-wide view of bed demand and capacity, it is improving coordination across sites and services and has enabled staff to reduce manual reporting in their daily access meetings.
ORA Care supports day-to-day care progression and discharge planning. Since its launch, it continues to be used to:
“We’re honoured to work with care teams at The Alfred, Caulfield Hospital and Sandringham Hospital to enhance their system-wide efficiencies by using our Command Center software for the benefit of patients,” says Leon Berkovich, CEO GE HealthCare, Australia and New Zealand. “We’re pleased to support their important work through technology that’s designed to ease care coordination, improve efficiencies and help them do what they do best – take care of patients.”
Combined with ORA View and ORA Care, this technology will lay the foundation for a more connected, responsive and efficient healthcare system.
The installation of GE HealthCare’s Command Center at these Melbourne hospitals follow a phased activation, with plans to onboard additional tiles later this year. Command Center Tiles are modular, real‑time visual components used within GE HealthCare’s Command Center software. Each tile displays specific operational or clinical information—such as patient flow, staffing forecasts, risks, or resource utilization—and updates frequently. These tiles help care teams monitor conditions, anticipate issues, coordinate actions, and streamline hospital operations. They are selected and configured based on a health system’s needs, forming a customizable “tile catalog” that supports everything from patient throughput to specialty workflows like emergency care or surgical operations.
Since its global launch in 2016, GE HealthCare’s Command Center has been implemented in close to 500 hospitals and medical facilities globally, helping to optimize hospital operations and enhance patient care management. Some health systems using this solution have achieved a 12x return on investment, 78% improvement in access to care for acutely ill patients, and US$40 million savings through elimination of inefficiencies1.
Command Center supports hospital systems by simplifying the coordination of patient care, including balancing the competing demands from all service points across the hospital system. Using a suite of specialised applications that live within the solution, Command Center integrates live data from the EMR and other source systems to match patients with the right bed quickly and provide healthcare staff with network-wide visibility and planning tools to ultimately improve access to care, reduce wait times, conserve resources, and enhance operational efficiency. These applications enable teams to take action with real-time insights and help them consider adjustments based on the system’s predictive insights.
