  • Volume Control Ventilation

    Delivers the tidal volume you set, regardless of changes in the fresh gas flow , circuit compliance, airway pressure, up to the selected pressure limit. The 7900 SmartVent™ provides a full spectrum of tidal volume settings from 20mL to 1500mL to accommodate a wide range of patients, with a respiratory rate range of 4 to 100 bpm. A typical volume-control pressure waveform is shark fin shaped, increasing throughout the entire inspiratory period, and rapidly decreasing at the start of expiration.   • Pressure Control Volume Guaranteed

    PCV-VG delivers a consistent tidal volume with all the benefits of Pressure Control Ventilation and helps to ensure patients receive the same volume regardless of compliance changes. • In PCV-VG, the 7900 SmartVent™ delivers the preset tidal volume with the lowest possible pressure using a decelerating flow • The first breath delivered to the patient is a volume-controlled breath; this is visible on the screen with a ‘square’ flow waveform and a ‘shark-fin’ pressure waveform for the very first breath. The patient's compliance is determined from this volume breath and the inspiratory pressure level is then established for the subsequent PCV-VG • Compliance in your patient’s lungs changes breath-by-breath. Pressure Control helps maximize time and Mean Airway Pressure for gas exchange and helps prevent baurotrama, but volume will vary with changes in compliance • Helps ensure patients receive same volume regardless of compliance changes caused by packs retractors, position, surgical exposure or level of relaxation.   • SIMV PCV-VG (Avance CS² only)

    Synchronized intermittent mandatory ventilation with pressure control volume guaranteed (SIMV PCV-VG) delivers a set rate of pressure controlled breaths with a guaranteed volume to the patient. • The patient can breathe spontaneously between mandatory breaths. Pressure support can be used to support the spontaneous breaths. • SIMV PCV-VG begins by delivering a volume controlled breath. The patient’s compliance is determined from the volume controlled ventilation breath and the inspiratory pressure level is then established for the next PCV-VG breath. The remaining mandatory breaths will be pressure controlled with a guaranteed volume at the inspiratory limb. • A portion of the exhalation phase is defined as the trigger window. If a spontaneous breath is detected in this window, a new mandatory PCV-VG breath is initiated. If a spontaneous breath is detected outside of this window, support for this breath is provided according to the set pressure support.   • CPAP PSV (Avance CS² and Aisys/Avance running version 8 software or higher)

    Pressure support ventilation for spontaneously breathing patients has become common practice during general anesthesia. Pressure support ventilation provides benefits of enhanced inspiratory flow with improved gas distribution and can help wean the patient from mechanical ventilation. • CPAP PSV mode brings ICU-quality pressure support to the operating suite. • CPAP PSV allows the patient to breathe spontaneously, with a pressure above ambient pressure maintained in the airway. During a pressure supported breath, the ventilator provides a set pressure level on top of the CPAP level during the inspiratory phase of the patient’s breath. • If the patient becomes apneic, a clinician set backup minimum rate and inspiratory pressure takes care of the patient’s ventilatory needs. As soon as the patient is able to breathe spontaneously, the minimum rate ventilation automatically reverts to CPAP PSV. Watch the CPAP PSV video here.

  • Pressure Supported Ventilation

    PSV is patient triggered and flow cycled. For PSV to be of value during clinical anesthesia the patient must be breathing spontaneously. During PSV, once a breath is initiated by the patient, the ventilator pressurizes the airway to a given inspiratory support pressure (Psupport). Each PSV assisted breath is terminated according to a preset decrease in flow. With full patient range capability, an adjustable flow trigger, PEEP and an apnea backup mode, the PSVPro™ (Pressure Supported Ventilation) mode helps simplify the work of caring for your spontaneously breathing patients. • Assists in overcoming the resistance within the breathing circuit and patient circuit, helping decrease the patient’s work of breathing • Counters the reduction in the patient’s functional residual capacity (FRC) and the decrease in respiratory effort due to the anesthetics • Can be used with LMAs due to its ability to set pressure support levels below the leak seal pressure of the LMA • Automatic apnea backup mode uses an SIMV-PC + PSV mode to maintain a minimum minute ventilation in the event the patient stops spontaneously breathing • Adjustable inspiration termination in the back up mode allows fine-tuning to the patient’s breathing pattern • Supports all spontaneous breaths that meet the trigger window and patient inspiratory effort flow settings • Uses a decelerating flow pattern (optimizes inspiratory flow) Watch the PSV Pro video here.

  • Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation

    SIMV allows ventilator to sense patient’s own breathing and permit spontaneous breathing between mechanical ventilations while assuring sufficient mandatory breaths should the patient’s own rate fall below a preset value. • SmartVent™ tidal volume compensation system works in all mandatory breaths • Adjustable trigger window and inspiratory flow sensing allow fine-tuning to the patient’s breathing pattern • Respiratory rate adjustable from 2 to 60 bpm • Provides assured rate and tidal volume for a minimum minute ventilation • Automatic synchronization with mandatory breaths • Improved synchronization of breaths may help decrease a patient’s tendency to fight the ventilator which may lessen the need for sedation or narcosis • Pressure Support breaths can be added to reduce the work of breathing between Synchronized and Mandatory breaths • Two SIMV modes are available: 1. Synchronized Intermittent Mandatory Ventilation with Volume Control breaths and Pressure Support 2.
