GE HealthCare and Swiss Medical Network advance personalized medicine at new molecular imaging and theranostics Center of Excellence

March 25, 2025

• GE HealthCare and Swiss Medical Network signed a Master Research Agreement to advance molecular imaging and theranostics

• Collaboration aims to leverage advanced diagnostics and targeted therapies, including AI-driven capabilities, to provide personalized, patient-centric care, improving outcomes for cancer patients and advancing the field of precision oncology
• Creating a dedicated GE HealthCare Center of Excellence in molecular imaging and theranostics at Clinique de Genolier to promote research and clinical excellence

Genolier, Switzerland – March 25, 2025 – GE HealthCare and Swiss Medical Network today announced a Master Research Agreement (MSA) to advance molecular imaging and theranostics research at its Department of Nuclear Medicine. Together, the two industry leaders will harness their expertise to drive innovation and expand access to precision medicine.

This research collaboration follows a strategic cooperation agreement signed in 2022. The GE HealthCare Center of Excellence in molecular imaging and theranostics will be established at Clinique de Genolier, a member of the Swiss Medical Network, one of the leading groups of clinics, hospitals and medical centers represented in all language regions of Switzerland.

“We are excited to deepen our collaboration with Swiss Medical Network and its academic partners in Switzerland’s public sector," said Peter Arduini, President & CEO, GE HealthCare. "This agreement represents a step forward in our shared mission to advance molecular imaging and theranostics, ultimately delivering more connected and personalized care for better patient outcomes. The agility of the Swiss Medical Network enables us to rapidly validate and adopt innovative technologies, including AI-driven capabilities, and advance the future of healthcare.”

“As Swiss Medical Network remains committed to advancing the latest diagnostic and therapeutic technologies to enhance patient outcomes, GE HealthCare stands as a pivotal partner. With its deep expertise in molecular and diagnostic imaging, GE HealthCare plays a crucial role in fostering research synergies across the nationwide Swiss Medical Network, driving scientific and clinical excellence forward,” said Dr. Med Jacques Bernier, Chief Science Officer, Swiss Medical Network.

Cancer continues to threaten the lives of patients, with nearly 10 million deaths in 2020, or nearly one in six deaths1. Fortunately, the advancement of precision diagnostics solutions and regulatory approval of new treatment options enables the growing practice of precision medicine – namely theranostics – giving hope to patients and their loved ones and the potential for an improved quality of life. Theranostics, a cornerstone of precision oncology, combines advanced diagnostic technologies and targeted delivery of therapies to precisely diagnose, monitor, and treat cancers.

“The involvement of a global innovator like GE HealthCare is a testament to the growing complexity of cancer care and underscores the importance of investing in medical research. This commitment enables healthcare professionals to deliver the latest diagnostic and therapeutic options to patients,” said Dr. Antoine Leimgruber, MD & Physics MS, Medical Director and Development Director of Nuclear Medicine, Swiss Medical Network. “Constantly challenging ourselves to adopt and develop new technologies is critical in our pursuit of excellence, as is adapting our medical practices in the rapidly evolving medical field to the benefit of the patient.”

Theranostics has seen major therapeutical successes in oncology and is now becoming rapidly evolving field, with impact in major cancers. GE HealthCare is at the leading edge of enabling theranostics with its integrated portfolio of imaging– such as Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) and Single Photon Emission/Computed Tomography (SPECT/CT) - molecular imaging agents, isotopes, cyclotrons, digital analytics, and informatics, enhanced by AI-driven solutions that connect and optimize workflows.

GE HealthCare and Swiss Medical Network are proud to be at the forefront of this quickly developing practice. To support this advanced research, encourage new discoveries, and meet growing clinical demands, GE HealthCare is providing equipment, access to proprietary tools and technologies and support to research projects.

Swiss Medical Network has transformed its nuclear medicine platform, relocating to a new facility in the heart of Genolier Campus and a new facility in Clinique Générale Beaulieu, Lake Geneva Area. This includes the adoption of GE HealthCare’s comprehensive suite of imaging and analysis technologies including Omni Legend 32 PET/CT system, StarGuide advanced SPECT/CT system and 870DR general purpose SPECT/CT.
