Taking a Swing Against Breast Cancer: GE Healthcare Sponsors 11th Annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game

The Kathryn Krickstein Pressel MammoVan from Boca Raton, Florida with GE Healthcare breast imaging technology will be at the west curb of South Capitol Street, SW between C and D Streets, SW on Wednesday, June 19 from 11:00 am to 3:30 pm, and outside the Congressional Women’s Softball Game between 5:00 and 8:30 pm. All attendees are welcome to stop by the van to learn about the latest technology in breast cancer screenings and detection. 

Washington, D.C. – June 17, 2019 – With a shared mission to tackle breast cancer, GE Healthcare is proud to be a sponsor of the 11th annual Congressional Women’s Softball Game. All proceeds from this game between Congressional women and women in media benefit the Young Survival Coalition, a global organization dedicated to the critical issues unique to young women who are diagnosed with breast cancer. This year’s team captains are Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, Representative Martha Roby, and Representative Debbie Wasserman Schultz on the Members of Congress Team, and Mikayla Bouchard from The New York Times and Emmarie Huetteman from Kaiser Health News on the “Bad News Babes” Team.

Dr. Kathy Schilling, Medical Director of the Christine E. Lynn Women’s Health & Wellness Institute at Boca Raton Regional Hospital, is joining the crowd at the softball game this week, and has passionately advocated for both the broader cause and for active patient engagement in their own care, “In the past, the focus was primarily to improve image quality, but today we are seeing an additional focus on how we can make it better for our patients. I’m confident that by offering a better experience for patients, we can encourage more women to adhere to their annual mammograms, which means we have a better chance of catching anything suspicious early.”

GE Healthcare will showcase its breast care portfolio in the Pressel MammoVan outside the softball field, including the Senographe Pristina™ mammography system, which was introduced in 2017 to reimagine the mammography experience. The system includes Pristina Dueta™ – the industry’s first patient-assisted remote control that allows patients to play an active role in their mammogram, under the guidance of a mammography technologist. The van also features Invenia™ ABUS (Automated Breast Ultrasound), a comfortable, nonionizing alternative to other supplemental screening options for women with dense breast tissue.
