Discovery™ MI Gen 2 PET/CT System

Next generation. Even more in sight.

GEHCDMIG2ProductWebPageOverviewImage1

A new generation of the world’s first digital PET/CT platform.

Built with breakthrough digital PET technology, the latest in diagnostic CT and advanced quantitative software, Discovery™ MI was created to both accelerate your research and enhance your clinical work. Now, with Discovery MI Gen 2, we see an evolution of this incredible imaging technology. Not only is it engineered to reach an impressive 30 centimeters of coverage1 and paired with a diagnostic CT that allows deep-learning based image reconstruction, it was also thoughtfully developed to provide a more efficient technologist experience. Welcome to a new generation of digital PET/CT.

Discovery™ MI Gen 2 PET/CT System Overview

Digital Detector-Transparent 6th Block
Digital Detectors

Digital detection, remastered

The LightBurst Digital Detector is a key component of what made Discovery MI the leading digital PET system. This innovative digital PET detector technology combines a small lutetium-based scintillator crystal array with a Silicon Photomultiplier (SiPM) block design for significant improvements in sensitivity, scan times and required dose levels compared to similar ToF technology. Discovery MI Gen 2 is designed for next-level digital detection with an axial FOV scalable up to 30 centimeters1 and the corresponding potential to reach even greater levels of sensitivity.

Sensitivity

What does one more detector ring give you? A whole lot.

Not every PET detector ring is built the same. Each row of the Discovery MI Gen 2 LightBurst Digital Detector adds five centimeters to your total field of view, unlocking another layer of capability and performance. With the option to scale from 15 centimeters of coverage all the way up to 30 centimeters1, you can expect the flexibility needed to decide how best to meet your immediate clinical needs, while also protecting your investment for the future.

Focus on what is most important.
High sensitivity per cm.

In PET imaging, sensitivity is everything. It affects your ability to detect small lesions, your scan length and dose amounts. Discovery MI Gen 2 is engineered to expand all the way up to 30 centimeters of coverage1 with the goal of providing a 50 percent increase in peak NECR4, as well as exceptional system sensitivity that reaches 30 cps/kBq1. Ultimately, this translates to a system designed to provide significant improvements in scan times or dose amounts.
WB Dynamic IQ Protocol

A whole new way to scan1

Static whole-body PET/CT imaging provides a simple snapshot of radiopharmaceutical concentration, but to truly understand how tissue is behaving, you have to account for time. With whole-body dynamic imaging, you can see the difference between tracer activity that’s simply trapped in tissue versus highlighting actual malignancies. However, capturing this level of information takes time. Discovery MI Gen 2 is engineered to provide the FOV and the sensitivity necessary to enhance whole-body dynamic acquisition. It’s designed to allow you to capture as much detail as possible in fewer bed positions. With Discovery MI Gen 2 and WB Dynamic IQ Protocol5, you have a powerful new tool that provides you with the potential to better identify regions of metabolic activity and increased tracer uptake rate6.

Diagnostic CT

See precisely what you need to see

Revolution™ EVO Gen 3 brings the precision of diagnostic CT to digital PET. Clearly see details as small as 0.28 millimeters with the enhanced spatial resolution of the Clarity Imaging Chain. Work around metal implants by virtually eliminating streaks and shadows from metal artifacts with Smart MAR. Then, take your CT experience even further on a system designed for TrueFidelity, our latest innovation in CT image reconstruction technology that uses a deep-learning based reconstruction engine to combine the low-dose CT you expect with the image texture you want.

TrueFidelity

For years, low dose was the benchmark for image quality by which every CT image was held. We helped set the standard for low-dose imaging back in 2008 by introducing the industry’s first iterative reconstruction technology capable of lowering dose. Over the years, the benchmark has changed. While dose is still important, radiologists are looking for an image texture reminiscent of the text-book quality images they studied in medical school. To that end, we’ve introduced Deep Learning Image Reconstruction, what we feel is the future of image quality. It uses artificial intelligence to combine the low dose of iterative reconstruction with a “classic-looking” image texture.

A CT that keeps getting better

A CT that keeps getting better

TrueFidelity is available through Smart Subscription, the industry’s first subscription-based service for advanced applications. Smart Subscription helps solve the oldest challenge with buying imaging equipment: every time you buy a new system, you’re locked in to its capabilities even as new capabilities become available. Smart Subscription overcomes this challenge by making it possible to automatically keep your system up to date. So, for the first time, you can expect your hybrid CT to keep improving for as long as you have it.

Experience

Plan on making an entrance by leaving the room

AutoIN gives your technologists the ability to landmark and position the patient table from the console in the control room. This improves the imaging workflow. By keeping technologists at the console, AutoIN helps reduce exposure to radiation as well as limits contact wtih contagious diseases.

Motion Correction

Clear the way for clear images

Respiratory motion negatively affects about half of all PET/CT procedures. Current gating solutions are cumbersome and take too long to set up, which puts you in the difficult position of having to pick and choose which situations to use it in. As a result, only a small percentage of overall procedures affected by motion receive the benefits of motion correction. However, with MotionFree, Discovery MI Gen 2 assures that every patient gets the benefit of reduced motion during their exams for exceptionally clear images.

MotionFree

MotionFree is the first-ever digital respiratory motion management solution that completely eliminates the need for a gating device. It continually monitors respiratory motion in every PET/CT procedure, and when it detects an anomaly, it automatically modifies the scan and then integrates what it learns into the final image in real time. MotionFree is the new standard for PET imaging and an essential tool for better outcomes.

Quantitation

Accurate data points to trusted treatment

Imagine a system that has everything you’ve come to expect from the most advanced digital PET, including quantitative accuracy. With Discovery MI Gen 2, you can. Our plan for Discovery MI Gen 2 is to no longer limit your quantitation by the technologies used to produce it. By using quantitative tools, like Q.Clear, that are more accurate and consistent compared to conventional methods, this system is designed to support your treatment with precise data points. What this means is your SUV measurements are able to become more than just a number. They become tools for trusted clinical discovery, diagnosis and treatment assessment.

Q.Clear

Since its introduction, Q.Clear (BSREM) has delivered fast and efficient quantitation readings for confident diagnosis and precise treatment response assessment by providing up to two times improvement in both PET quantitation accuracy (SUVmean) and image quality (SNR). For this reason, Q.Clear is a critical component of Discovery MI Gen 2.

FOOTNOTES
  1. Discovery MI Gen 2 30 cm configuration with WB Dynamic IQ Protocol is CE marked. It is 510(k) pending at U.S. FDA. Not available for sale in the U.S.
  2. As demonstrated in a clinical evaluation consisting of 60 cases and seven physicians, where each case was reconstructed with both DLIR and ASiR-V™ and evaluated by three of the physicians. In 90 percent of the reads, DLIR’s noise texture was rated better than ASiR-V’s. In 99 percent of the reads, DLIR’s image sharpness was rated the same as or better than ASiR-V’s.
