Dual Energy Subtraction

Dual Energy Subtraction

Separates bone tissue from soft tissue for unobstructed viewing

Dual Energy Subtraction is an advanced application for GE Healthcare's Definium 8000 digital radiographic imaging system.

Digital technology provided by the GE flat panel detector allows a PA/AP chest exam to be performed almost simultaneously. Two images at different energy levels are acquired in less than 200 milliseconds. Three images are generated providing three separate views:

  • routine radiographic image
  • soft tissue image with the bones "subtracted"
  • image of the bones and any calcified structures

In less than a few seconds, Dual Energy Subtraction can help to eliminate obstructions from overlying bones while providing additional information on calcifications in chest pathology studies.
