In the News: LOGIQ e Medical School Program
University of South Carolina (USC) School of Medicine, Columbia, SC, and Henry Ford Hospital/Wayne State University School of Medicine, Detroit, MI, are testing the educational and diagnostic potential of portable ultrasound devices through new partnerships with GE Healthcare.
Robert Honigberg, MD, Chief Medical Officer at GE Healthcare, explains that the partnerships with USC and Wayne State are intended to increase the use of ultrasound through the next generation of medical professionals. "The goal is to validate that ultrasound can make a difference in the medical school curriculum… both assisting in the clinical decision making process and by helping them better understand spatial anatomical relationships.”
Medical students in these programs will learn about the benefits of ultrasound as a diagnostic tool in a variety of fields including: surgery; OB/GYN, family, preventive, internal and emergency medicine. If the programs are successful, they could provide the support needed to show that sonography can routinely be used in remote locations, wirelessly transmitting images to specialists when necessary, and driving the opportunity to find and treat disease earlier.
