Course 5: Case scenario reviewing FHR pattern definitions and pathophysiology with emphasis on the relationship between oxytocin, uterine activity and FHR patterns. This course presents a series of questions, followed by detailed feedback, explanation and references. Medical illustration and animation provide additional information for key concepts.

Learning Objectives

At the completion of this course, the participant will be able to:

  • List the criteria for the diagnosis of uterine hyperstimulaion.
  • Outline a protocol for labor augmentation with both low and high dose oxycotcin including (1) Starting dose (2) Incremental increase (3) Dosage interval and (4) Maximum dose
  • Describe the risk and benefits of both low and high dose oxytocin regimens
  • List the steps in the management of abnormal FHR patterns secondary to uterine hyperstimulation

An 8 question post-test is designed to document the participant’s knowledge of standardized fetal heart rate terminology and pattern recognition related to the case scenario.
