Course Description

This course covers MR patient care and safety issues. Emphasis is placed on screening procedures, monitoring, and environmental considerations. Also discussed are the possible biological effects involved with the main, radiofrequency, and gradient magnetic fields.


Goals and Objectives

  • Describe the four most important general screening questions for patients and personnel.
  • Name the three classifications of implanted devices.
  • Describe the meaning of conscious sedation.
  • Identify safety precautions associated with a quench.
  • Discuss environmental considerations of an MR system.
  • Explain possible biological considerations of exposure to the main magnetic field.
  • Describe biological problems possible with the radiofrequency field.
  • Discuss possible biological effects from the gradient magnetic field.

This course is suitable for all radiologic technologists, radiology students, and managers in radiology and other areas. All interested medical personnel will benefit from this course. This home study course has been approved for 1.5 Category A CE credits as defined by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT).
