Diffusion Tensor Imaging

The Diffusion Tensor Imaging option extends the capabilities of diffusion imaging by applying motion sensing gradients along 6 to 155 directions. The optional FiberTrak postprocessing package augments this functionality to allow Functool DTI processing to create 2D color orientation maps, 2D color eigenvector maps, and 3D tractography maps.       Related Links Software

DTI

Tissue contrast depends on the degrees of diffusion isotropy versus anisotropy. Automated online processing generates white matter projection maps based on T2-weighted combined, apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) and fractional anisotropy (FA) .

Benefits:

  • Improved white matter tracts visibility
  • High SNR
  • Rapid acquisition

FiberTrak

The FiberTrak option adds 2D maps capability to the standard Functool DTI. With FiberTrak 2D color orientation and 2D color eigenvector maps can be generated. The 2D acquisition data set is reformatted into orthogonal planes that can be superimposed on the color tract renderings. These planes can be manipulated and toggled interactively.

It also adds a 3D volume viewer, which permits the depiction of areas of high fractional anisotropy (typically white matter tracts) to be displayed in 3 dimensions. The viewer is interactive and can be manipulated using a mouse to view different orientations.
