Maximizing RIS

Maximizing RIS

Moving to a Totally Integrated RIS/PACS

Jackson General enters the next phase of upgrading their radiology image and information management capabilities with the implementation of a totally integrated Centricity RIS/PACS from GE, beginning in early 2002.

This solution will replace the interim configuration in which the hospital's separate RIS and PACS databases were connected via HL7 and DICOM links. The hospital expects the advanced Centricity system to take radiology workflow "to the next level" by providing:

Maximizing RIS

  • A single, scaleable database for RIS and PACS, with a single Web-based System Administration tool for updating and maintaining the RIS/PACS database.
  • An integrated user interface that truly revolutionizes radiology workflow by making all RIS and PACS information available on a single workstation, and digitizes all communication and paper throughout the radiology process.
  • Web-enabled reporting workflow that gives radiologists and referring physicians greater flexibility and convenience in preparing, sending, and reading reports. The ability to sign-off on reports from home is expected to improve turn-around time significantly.
