Discovery LS Testicular Metastic Disease Case Study

Discovery LS

Summary:

The patient is a 32 year-old male 6'0", 235 lbs, recently diagnosed with testicular cancer who had a right orchiectomy two weeks prior to scanning. A PET/CT scan was done for staging prior to therapy. The CT done at time of orchiectomy showed clear lung bases and a 2 cm suspicious lymph node in the aortocaval region at the level of the aortic bifurcation adjacent to the inferior vena cava.

Ultrasound results: 4 cm mass in right testicle suspicious for testicular carcinoma Histology Report: Embryonal cell carcinoma

Findings and Conclusion

Findings:

There were three discrete focal area of markedly increased FDG activity. One focal area of uptake is seen in the left lower lung field close to the midline behind the heart.
Discovery LS

Two additional focal areas of uptake are visualized in the retroperitoneal region anterior to the lower lumbar spine.
Discovery LS

All three focal areas are suggestive of metastases involving lymph nodes.

Conclusion:

Whereas initially, restaging was to be done using CT, it will now be done using PET/CT, as the study demonstrated more advanced metastatic disease then previously known.
