Executive Summary:

This course is designed to provide the individual with the practical skills to service the generator and the automatic exposure control system, perform service repair, and conduct routine maintenance on the LORAD M-III/M-IV Series Mammography System. Emphasis is placed on introductory level system overview, scanning techniques, calibration procedures, functional checks and troubleshooting techniques. The course will concentrate on problem identification and resolution to the circuit board and subassembly level. Course employs integrated lectures and labs (50% lecture / 50% lab). Lab time is key to reinforce learned skills. Topics covered include: Introd to scanning principles, System safety, Intro to hardware, Software fundamentals, HV generation, Tube replacement procedures, Data acquisition, Gantry drive, Patient table, Preventative maintenance, System troubleshooting techniques.

EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

• Perform all system related tasks safely
• Identify system mechanical and electrical safety hazards
• Navigate the system's ePST or OEM source document
• Recognize major components of the system and explain how they work together in the image chain
• Become familiar with the operation of the system and know how to make an exposure
• Remove all covers safely
• Perform the major operation of the system and the host microprocessor
• Align and calibrate the system
• Explain the Automatic Exposure Control (AEC) system and trouble-shoot its problems
• Diagnose problems related to image quality to determine the cause and its solution
• Given an error code or description of the most common system failures, identify and troubleshoot problem's source and repair system to operational status
