Executive Summary:

This course is designed to provide the individual with the practical skills to service the ADAC Nuclear Gamma camera. The target audience of this course is those with minimal ADAC Nuclear Gamma camera service experience. The course provides familiarity with the Genesys Dual head camera with analog detectors as well as the basic skills and knowledge necessary to perform first-call field service and PMs as well as the procedures necessary to perform first-call field service on the ADAC PEGASYS computer. Emphasis is placed on introductory level system overview, scanning techniques, calibration procedures, functional checks and troubleshooting techniques. The course will concentrate on problem identification and resolution to the circuit board and subassembly level. Course format employs integrated lectures and labs (30% lecture/70% lab). Lab time is key to reinforce learned skills. Topics covered include: Intro to scanning principles, System safety, Intro to hardware, Software fundamentals, Data acquisition, Patient table, periodic maintenance, and System troubleshooting techniques.


EDUCATIONAL OBJECTIVES:

  • Locate and describe major system components
  • Operate the camera (manually & automatically)
  • Set-up an acquisition protocol via the ACQ-PC
  • Perform calibration of all motions
  • Perform ring cable replacement
  • Troubleshoot via error codes
  • Properly field tune and calibrate the ADAC analog detectors
  • Utilize basic diagnostic tools (software) & Service Manuals to isolate and troubleshoot some common problems
  • Open a UNIX window and utilize basic UNIX commands to move throughout the file system
  • Troubleshoot the Ethernet connection
  • Properly boot and login to Pegasys
  • Properly logout or shutdown Pegasys
  • Troubleshoot the Pegasys hardware
  • Utilize all available system diagnostics
  • Work safely with liquid radioactive sources in a clinical environment
  • Perform the semi-annual PM procedure
