WAUKESHA, WI.. – GE Medical Systems, NBC and BabyTalk Magazine today announced the addition of an all-new series to The Patient Channel, GE Medical’s hospital-based patient education television network. Beginning this week, the network will dedicate six hours each day to parenting content from BabyTalk Magazine called “BabyTalk Presents: You and Your Baby on The Patient Channel.” Pampers – whose baby care products are in more than 80 percent of birthing facilities in the U.S. – has signed up as the first sponsor. “We’re extremely pleased to announce two new relationships that will allow us to bring high quality programming for new parents to our subscribing hospitals,” said Paul Mirabella, president and CEO of GE Medical Systems Healthcare Services. “BabyTalk, the highly respected baby magazine published by Time Inc., has been signed to help develop content for the all-new parenting programs that will begin airing the end of this month. Equally exciting, is the fact that Pampers has come onboard.” Parenting information is the number one programming topic requested by the channel’s almost 900 member hospitals. With over 4 million births in the United States annually, parents comprise a sizeable audience in need of educational information that is current, accurate and easy to understand. BabyTalk, which already distributes 3.5 million BabyTalk kits annually to new parents in 93percent of all US hospitals nationwide, is completing production of four half-hour programs for the series. The first four programs will be: The First Few Days; The First Few Weeks; Care, Feeding and Sleep; and Understanding Their World. The new content, like all programming on The Patient Channel, is being reviewed by The Patient Channel’s outside medical advisory boards, who ensure the appropriateness of programming prior to airing. “The development of quality programming is part of our ongoing effort to ensure that The Patient Channel continues to provide timely, accurate and useful information for patients – including new parents -- and their caregivers,” said David A. Ross, manager of The Patient Channel. “This service fills a vital niche in healthcare, since rising demand and dwindling resources have hindered educational capabilities for many hospitals.” "Giving birth is a powerful experience for a mom, followed by an equally powerful hunger for reliable information about caring for her newborn," according to Greg Schumann, publisher of BabyTalk magazine. "Providing such guidance has been BabyTalk's mission since it was founded 68 years ago. We're proud to provide this service through The Patient Channel." Pampers, The Procter and Gamble Company’s largest global brand, has signed on as the first major sponsor of the “BabyTalk Presents: You and Your Baby on The Patient Channel” series, which will also enable The Patient Channel to make a unique offer available to its new-parent viewers – they can order free copies of the four-part series for viewing at home. “Pampers is pleased to be joining GE’s The Patient Channel to help reach parents when they most need tips to help them begin caring for their baby,” said Kirk Perry, General Manager, Pampers Baby Care North America. “It’s a great fit with our own Pampers Parenting Institute featured on www.Pampers.com which has been providing expert advice and insights for parents for more than a decade.” Launched just over a year ago by GE Medical Systems and NBC, The Patient Channel
(www.thepatientchannel.com), is delivered via satellite television to hospitals
across the United States to provide high quality educational programs to patients
and their families in hospital patient and waiting rooms. Eighty percent of
the hospitals in GE’s current subscriber network have birthing facilities. |
