Applications Developed by Worldwide Experts
Many times during a referral or surgical planning it is difficult for the clinician to articulate precisely the effect of treatment or course of action when a treatment is prescribed. In some cases this would necessitate an ability to view closed cavities, peek through an otherwise opaque lumen, or reverse the perspective of certain anatomy in 3 dimensions. Navigator provides this capability quickly and easily. A customer related one such case to us recently. Both CT and MR showed a mass in the back of a patient's posterior nasal sinus. The endoscopy department took the case and immediately proceeded to scope the patient in an effort to biopsy the mass.
The endoscopist could not visualize the landmarks around the mass that had been shown on both the CT and MR exams. As a result, the endoscopic team could not biopsy the mass accurately. Using Navigator the radiologist was able to display in 3D the route the endoscopist would take to the mass, as well as the landmarks he would see in his scope when he got there.
Using this information, the endoscopist followed the path he saw using Navigator until he came to the target area. With a picture of the target area, obtained using Navigator, in his hand he proceeded to biopsy the patient, obtaining a successful result. Navigator does provide an additional tool that helps improve the diagnostic confidence. Customers tell us that Navigator offers the ability to prospectively examine the most intricate structures before an invasive exam begins, which in turn reduces the overall risk and discomfort to the patient.
