Kieran Murphy is President and CEO of GE Healthcare’s Life Sciences division. GE Healthcare Life Sciences is a $1.8 billion world-class business that provides pharmaceutical companies, government organizations and academia with a wide range of technologies and services for cell biology and protein research and for the manufacture of biopharmaceuticals such as recombinant proteins, antibodies and vaccines.

Murphy joined GE Healthcare from Whatman plc, a $230 million global supplier of filters and membranes for laboratory research, life sciences and medical diagnostic applications. Whatman, where Murphy was CEO, was acquired by GE in 2008. Following the acquisition, he held a series of senior leadership roles in GE Healthcare’s Life Sciences business, with responsibility for global commercial operations and for driving profitable growth. He was appointed to his current role in April 2011.

Murphy has over twenty years’ experience in the global life sciences and biotechnology industry. He began his career with Janssen Pharmaceutical, a division of Johnson and Johnson, followed by leadership roles with Mallinckrodt and veterinary medicines provider Vericore. While at Novartis, Murphy led the creation of a new division focused on the development and production of vaccines. Prior to Whatman, Murphy served as CEO to UK biotechnology businesses Adprotech Ltd., ML Laboratories and Innovata plc.

Murphy earned his bachelor’s degree in 1984 from University College, Dublin. He subsequently graduated from The University of Manchester Institute of Science and Technology with a master’s degree in Marketing.
