Hello! I'm Thomas Hook, General Manager for Global Positron Emission Tomography at GE Medical Systems. Welcome to the 48th annual Society of Nuclear Medicine show!

Nuclear Medicine Physicians have been telling us for years that they needed a reliable, robust approach to detecting cancer accurately and planning treatment options. In the mid-1990s, GE identified a breakthrough technology, which combined CT and PET. GE has used the Six Sigma quality methodology to further develop this imaging technology to benefit doctors and their patients.

Now, GE Medical Systems is the first and only diagnostic imaging company to offer a complete line of fused imaging products.

The GE Discovery LS is our new, state-of-the-art PET/CT system that delivers a true hybrid image in 1/2 the time of traditional PET scanners, without repositioning the patient. Discovery LS combines the most sophisticated CT scanner available today, the GE LightSpeed Plus, with the most advanced PET system, the GE Advance NXi. For patients who are suspected of having cancer, the GE Discovery LS allows doctors to see significantly more information about the extent and location of the disease. Medical professionals can then determine the best course of treatment to help increase a patient's chances of survival. If radiation or surgical therapy is necessary, physicians will be able to more effectively target treatments and more rapidly evaluate their effectiveness. This in turn should lead to improved outcomes, shorter hospital stays, and improved patient management.

Also on display in the GE Medical Systems booth will be an exciting work-in-progress: the Discovery VI, formerly known as the POSiTRACE acquired with SMV last year. The Discovery VI offers the advantages of fused PET-CT imaging in a smaller, lighter system.

We hope that you will take the time to stop by our booth, as well as read through the materials here and become more familiar with the exciting developments in molecular imaging at GE Medical Systems. Enjoy the show!
