Medical and Association Speakers
Diane S. Blum, A.C.S.W. is Executive Director of Cancer Care, Inc., a national nonprofit agency which for more than 55 years has provided emotional support, information, education, financial assistance and practical help to people with cancer, their loved ones and professionals. Co-founder of the National Alliance of Breast Cancer Organizations, Ms. Blum is a founder of National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, and a board member of the Cure for Lymphoma Foundation and the Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation. Ms. Blum received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Rochester and her master’s degree from the School of Social Welfare at the State University of New York at Buffalo. Prior to joining Cancer Care, Ms. Blum served as a social work supervisor at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Canter and the Dana Farber Cancer Institute. Ms. Blum’s research into the psychosocial needs of cancer patients and their families has been published in a variety of medical journals, including the Journal of Psychosocial Oncology.

Homer A. Macapinlac, M.D. is Director and Section Chief of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and Associate Professor of Radiology at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston. He is an editorial board member for The Journal of Nuclear Medicine, and serves on the editorial boards of Clinical Positron Imaging and Clinical Nuclear Medicine. He received his medical degree from the University of the East in Quezon City, Philippines. Dr. Macapinlac completed a residency in Nuclear Medicine and fellowship in PET Imaging and Nuclear Oncology at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York City, where he was formerly the PET Center Clinical Director from 1995 to 2000. Dr. Macapinlac has also served as an associate attending physician in the Department of Radiology at MSK, and associate professor of radiology at Cornell University Medical College. Dr. Macapinlac has won several awards for his scientific papers and research.

Richard L. Wahl, M.D., is Director of the Division of Nuclear Medicine and Vice-Chair for Technology and Development for the Department of Radiology at Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. Dr. Wahl holds several United States patents for types of radioimmunotherapy. He also is a member of the editorial boards of the Journal of the International Society of Tumor Targeting and Cancer Biotherapy and Radiopharmaceuticals. Dr. Wahl is a former Chairman of the Board of the American Board of Nuclear Medicine and fellow of the American College of Nuclear Physicians, as well as past president of the Institute of Clinical Positron Emission Tomography. He received his medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

Gustav K. von Schulthess, M.D., PhD. is Professor and Director of the Division of Nuclear Medicine at University Hospital in Zurich, Switzerland, a Visiting Professor of Radiology at Stanford University Medical Center in Palo Alto, California, and a frequent lecturer. He is also co-director of the International Diagnostic Course (IDKD) in Davos, Switzerland and a past president of the European Society for Magnetic Resonance in Medicine and Biology. In addition, he is an associate editor of radiology and a member of the editorial board of the Journal of Magnetic Resonance Imaging. He reviews for these and other scientific journals. Professor von Schulthess completed his clinical training mostly in Zurich, Switzerland. He held a research fellowship in radiology at the University of California, San Francisco. He received his medical degree from the Harvard-MIT Division in Health Sciences and Technology at Harvard Medical School and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge. He also obtained a PhD in physics from MIT and an MS degree in physics from the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Zurich.


General Electric Executives
Jeffrey R. Immelt is President and Chairman-Elect, General Electric Company. Prior to being named to that position in November 2000, he was president and CEO of GE Medical Systems. Immelt began his GE career in 1982 and held a series of leadership roles with GE Plastics in sales, marketing and global product management. He joined GE Appliances as vice president of consumer service, and was later named vice president of worldwide marketing and product management. Immelt rejoined GE Plastics in as vice president & general manager of GE Plastics-Americas Commercial Division and was subsequently promoted to vice president & general manager of GE Plastics Americas. He was appointed president & CEO of GE Medical Systems in 1997 and was a member of the GE Capital Board since October 1997. Immelt holds a B.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from Dartmouth College and an MBA from Harvard University.

Joseph M. Hogan is President and CEO of GE Medical Systems, the global leader in medical diagnostic technology and information systems. Hogan began his career with GE in 1985, advancing through a series of leadership roles in sales, marketing and product management at GE Plastics. In later years he was a staff executive role in the Office of the CEO at GE Corporate and was named president and CEO of GE Fanuc Automation North America, Inc., a global supplier of industrial controls systems headquartered in Charlottesville, VA, and a joint venture between GE and FANUC, Ltd. Japan. Hogan joined GE Medical Systems in April 2000 as vice president of Global eBusiness, and was later named executive vice president and chief operating officer. He was promoted to President & CEO in late November 2000. Hogan holds a bachelor’s degree from Geneva College, Pennsylvania, and his MBA from Robert Morris University.

Mary Elizabeth (Beth) Klein is Vice President and General Manager of Global Nuclear Medicine and Positron Emission Tomography (PET), GE Medical Systems. Ms. Klein began her GE career in 1979 with GE’s technical marketing program. She held various sales and marketing positions in the company’s CT business and led the MR marketing group in the introduction of the Signa 1.5T. Ms. Klein later served in sales leadership positions including District Sales Manager, Northeast Region Field Sales Manager, National Ultrasound Sales Manager and Americas Ultrasound Sales/Marketing Manager. Prior to her current position, Ms. Klein served as General Manager of CT Sales/Marketing for Europe, Middle East and Africa. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Notre Dame and an MBA degree from Northeastern University.
