Ruben Berumen President & CEO of GE OEC
General Manager, Global Surgery & Vascular GE Medical Systems
Hello, I'm Ruben Berumen, President and CEO of GE OEC, and General Manger for surgery and vascular imaging within GE Medical Systems.
I'm delighted to welcome you to the 2001 American College of Cardiology meeting. It's an exciting time we live in. Especially exciting is GE's ability to deliver to the cardiovascular clinician the broadest spectrum of technology available in the industry. Our advanced products answer the needs to match the best diagnostic and treatment technology to specific patient needs, whether it's MR, CT, Ultrasound or X-ray.
This clinical focus guided us in the development of the first flat panel for the cath lab to help better diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. It's also why we developed the mobile cardiac C-arm, capable of bedside angiography. It's a result of over 100 years of expertise brought to bear on cardiac care. Just one year ago, GE launched the revolutionary digital flat panel detector on the InnovaTM 2000. And today, 105 sites globally use this breakthrough product. But we've done more than bring the amazing technology to cardiac care providers. We've worked closely with medical teams throughout the world to monitor Innova's incredible image quality and reduced radiation exposure; always two issues of great importance.
During ACC Dr. Donna Marchant, on behalf of her peers at Northshore University Hospital in New York, will be presenting their second dose study just concluded based on the InnovaTM 2000, which details a reduction in operator X-ray exposure using the digital flat panel imaging system. Dr. Marchant will be available in our booth during the show to address their findings and experiences with Innova.
Also in the booth will be renowned interventional cardiologist Dr. Ahmed Sabe, who's doing amazing work at the Mercy Medical's emergency chest pain center in Canton, Ohio. Over the past four years he has introduced and established several new procedures in the field of cardiac catheterization and angiography, with particular emphasis on emergency treatment. He is credited with, among other things, performing the world's first angioplasty in the emergency department. And he used the OEC 9800 cardiac mobile imaging system to perform it. In the end, it's all about doing what's best for the patient. These clinicians have called on GE to supply them with tools to do just that, better treat their patients. We look forward to seeing you at ACC where you can experience first hand our exciting array of products for cardiology.
