BANGALORE, March 31, 1999 - Within a few years, GE has worked with Asian doctors to use CT scanning techniques to significantly improve diagnosis and treatment in a variety of diseases from TB to Cancer. GE is the world leader in CT and has been at the forefront of establishing this technology in Asia.
GE Medical Systems rolled out today its 10,000th CT scanner made in Asia. GE manufactured its first CT scanner in Asia over 15 years ago, and now manufactures CT scanners in four countries - India, Japan, China, and South Korea. Wipro GE today is the undisputed leader with over 250 CT scanners installed in metros as well as in smaller towns, spread across the subcontinent.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. D.A. Prasanna, who heads GE Medical Systems' operations in South East Asia and South Asia, said, "It is a great day for all of us at GE Medical Systems - Asia. Wipro GE Medical Systems started in early '90s, the manufacture of CT scanners in India, to offer more cost - effective systems for the growing Indian market. Even today, Wipro GE is the only company manufacturing CT's in this part of the world. Wipro GE manufactures the Synergy range of Helical CT's with many future upgrades in the offing.
GE also manufactures CT X-Ray Tubes at GE-BEL, Bangalore. This is the first company outside Japan in Asia, to manufacture CT X-Ray tubes. These tubes are now supplied worldwide and are highly acclaimed for their quality and reliability.
Indications for a CT scan include a number of medical conditions such as : hemorrhage, internal injuries, tumors and diseases of blood vessels. Accident victims often require an immediate CT scan as a life saving procedure. More than 2.5 million CT scan procedures have been performed on Wipro GE CT's in South Asia.
