MR EXCITETM:
The Biggest Breakthrough Ever In MRI

Speed has long been the #1 challenge in MRI. How can you acquire information fast enough to overcome or to capture the movement of the human body? In 1985 we revolutionized Magnetic Resonance Imaging with Signa® high-field technology. We are proud to introduce EXCITETM, that will now redefine MRI performance standards.

EXCITETM is the industry’s first radical redesign of the MRI data pipeline. The first end-to-end solution that optimizes each and every component in the imaging chain. This technology is available on new or installed scanners across the Signa family. It is designed to give you unprecedented clinical flexibility, with deep reserves of speed, resolution and SNR. EXCITETM is the industry’s first comprehensive technical solution to improving speed in MRI from image acquisition to final image presentation. In re-engineering the MRI data pipeline, we optimized every component in the imaging chain, from signal (pulse sequence) transmission to data processing.   And here’s how we achieved it.

TRANSMISSION ... lightning-fast pulse sequences : EXCITETM delivers the shortest pulse sequence parameters currently available. Shorter TRs, TEs, and EPI echo spacings translate to faster acquisition, higher SNR, and significantly better image quality.

RECEPTION ... 16 quadrature (8 independent), expandable channels with coils to match: EXCITETM has superior acquisition and digitization capabilities, including:

• Multi-channel coils optimized for parallel imaging techniques.
• High-bandwidth independent receivers, essential for today’s short echo-spacing,   echo-planar and short TR/fast gradient echo-sequences.
• Expandable quadrature receive channels. The modular expandability of EXCITETM technology positions it well for today’s parallel imaging techniques.

PROCESSING ... the power and speed to eliminate bottlenecks. Increasing the bandwidth and number of channels receiving data is only half the equation. You need a processing engine that is robust and fast enough to deal with this flood of information. No matter how data-intensive the procedure, there are no slow-downs and no bottlenecks in the pipeline. With EXCITETM, the interval between acquiring the data and seeing the image has been virtually erased.

In effect, EXCITETM expands MRI from a three-dimensional modality to a true four-dimensional tool. It’s a quantum leap in acquisition speed and image quality. Imagine how the benefits of MRI could be extended to more patients, particularly geriatric, pediatric, and trauma cases.

Imagine how patients will feel when they can breathe freely - and breathe easier with shorter exams. And consider the advantage on patient care, throughput and revenue opportunities.

The DiscoveryTM Family
Gives you choices among Hybrid Imaging Systems

For large institutions and research centers:

The Discovery LS combines two industry- leading products - the LightSpeed Plus
CT scanner and the Advance NXi PET scanner - to satisfy the most demanding needs. The Discovery LS can function independently as a PET scanner or CT scanner.

PET & SPECT in a single system:

The Discovery VH is especially important for Nuclear Medicine departments. The VH is the only gamma camera combined with a CT system. The 1-inch crystal detector delivers high-quality, low-energy SPECT and high-energy PET studies - both inherently fused with
CT images.

Clinicians who have worked with it tell us that this is the future of MRI... that someday all systems will perform like this.

EXCITETM is a major advance in MRI.
It overcomes the speed bumps in pulse programming... accelerates download times and image reconstruction.. and provides huge advantages for parallel imaging.

Dr. Robert R Edelman, MD, Chairman,
Dept of Radiology, Evanston Northwestern Healthcare, Professor of Radiology, Northwestern University Medical School.

For the first time we have the opportunity to capture images at the speed of life. GE EXCITETM
makes MR studies more comfortable for patients, especially those who have difficulty holding their breath in
certain abdominal procedures.

Dr. Lawrence N. Tanenbaum, MD,
Section Chief MRI,
CT and Neuroradiology, New Jersey Neuroscience Institute, Edison Imaging - JFK Medical Center.

The breakthrough is in the way EXCITETM combines image quality and temporal advantages synergistically. I don’t see an end to the possibilities.

Dr. Emmanuel Kanal, MD,
FACR, Professor
of MR Services,
Dept of Radiology,
University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.

There is a ton of signal to noise.
And the images come up extremely fast. I see this system as a way to attack my patient backlog.

Dr. Alfio Pennisi, MD,
Chief, Section, Neuroradiology,
South Jersey Radiology Associates.
