Millennium VG -Dr.Harsh
Mahajan
The Mahajan
Nuclear Medicine and Bone Densitometry Centre is a new state-of-the-art
facility in the prestigious Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in New Delhi. It was
inaugurated by Mr. K.R.Narayanan, President of India on July 23, 2000.
The
centre is promoted by Dr. Harsh Mahajan, an eminent Radiologist and Managing
Director of Mahajan Imaging Pvt. Ltd. Dr. Mahajan is a pioneer in the
field of MR Imaging having been involved with MRI for over 13 years. He
runs two MRI Centres in Delhi and is the first to start Functional MRI
and MR Spectroscopy in the private field in the country. He also has the
unique distinction of being Honorary Radiologist to the President of India,
the first ever Radiologist to be given this honour.
The
Centre is equipped with the state-of-the-art Millennium VG Dual Head Variable
Geometry SPECT Gamma Camera with a multi-tasking Genie workstation from
GE Medical Systems. The Millennium VG is designed to meet the clinical
requirements of the future as effortlessly as it meets those of today.
This provides quick exams with least patient discomfort.
The
forte of Nuclear Medicine has always been the ability to give accurate
information about functional status of an organ. The advanced technology
of the Millennium VG system combines this information with excellent anatomical
delineation giving the physician a total picture about the structural
and functional aspects of a disease. Whether it is cardiac imaging or
high resolution SPECT brain imaging or scanning for cancer or infections,
the new Gamma Camera provides invaluable information to the treating doctors.
In
addition to diagnostic imaging the centre is also involved in radioactive
therapy for diseases such as thyotoxicosis and painful bony secondaries
on an outpatient basis. This Centre also plans to offer radiation synovectomy
in which radioactivity is instilled within the joint space of the patients
of rheumatoid arthritis to reduce pain and swelling. Future plans include
setting up isolation ward for in patient treatment of diseases requiring
high dose radioactivity such as cancer thyroid and intra arterial radiotherapy.
The
centre is also equipped with the revolutionary Delphi Bone Densitometer
from HOLOGIC Inc., USA. Attacking the growing problem of osteoporosis,
this system is the first to offer instant Vertebral assessment (IVA) which
allows the doctor to scan the spine of the patient within 10 seconds to
assess which of the vertebral bones are at risk of undergoing fracture.
Presently the Mahajan Nuclear Medicine and Bone Densitometry Centre is
the only centre in entire Asia to offer this facility.
The
Centre has a comprehensive RIA lab, which is equipped with a Berthold
Gamma Camera. Different hormonal assays and drug levels in the blood are
carried out with precision and accuracy using RIA and IRMA technology.
