Ganga Ram Hospital

Sir
Ganga Ram Hospital is a 500 bed multi-speciality state-of-the-art hospital
in Delhi. Sir Ganga Ram Hospital is located in Central-West Delhi, adjacent
to the lush greenery of the ridge. It provides comprehensive health care
services, and over the past 48 years has acquired the status of a premier
medical institution. It is the only hospital in the private sector that
has maintained nearly 100% bed occupancy due to its reputation of providing
the highest level of medical services to patients from Delhi and neighbouring
states.
Sir
Ganga Ram (1851-1927), a civil engineer and leading philanthropist
of his times founded the hospital initially in 1921 at Lahore. After the
partition in 1947, the present hospital was established in New Delhi on
a plot of land of approximately 11 acres. The foundation was laid in April
1951 by the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Jawahar Lal Nehru and inaugurated
by him on 13 April 1954.
The
Board of Management operates under the overall guidance of the Sir Ganga
Ram Trust Society of which Shri Dharma Vira, ICS is the current chairman.
Dr.
S.K. Sama, Chairman of the Hospital said “With the vision, foresight,
guidance and able stewardship of Shri Dharma Vira, this hospital has been
able to serve the sick and poor of the country. He devised a unique system
of managing the affairs of the hospital with the involvement of eminent
consultants due to which this hospital has made steady progress over the
last twenty-two years.”
Dr.
S.K. Sama took over as Chairman in 1996. Under his dynamic leadership,
Sir Ganga Ram Hospital has undergone extensive development. There has
been a great growth in the area of Academics, Finance, Infrastructure
and upgradation of each department to Centres of Excellence.
Sir
Ganga Ram Hospital is on the referral panel of private and public sector
organizations.
Some
of the major achievements of the Hospital are :

First whole body CT Scan unit in Delhi installed.
• Department of Nephrology & Renal Transplantation: Leading centre in
the country with an active dialysis programme.

Department of Vascular Surgery : First dedicated Vascular Surgery unit
in North/Central India with a large number of arterial bypass and endarterectomy
procedures.
•
Department of Minimally Invasive Surgery : First such dedicated unit in
all of South Asia.
•
Department of Orthopaedics : It has the distinction of having the first
bone bank in India.
•
Department of Genetics : It is the leading unit in the country performing
genetic studies and providing counseling.

Plans of the Hospital are :

Cancer centre with all modern equipment including facilities for deep
X-ray therapy, linear accelerator, treatment planner, bone marrow transplant.
• Liver Transplant Centre.
• Centre for minimally invasive surgery of international repute.
• New building to provide more space for OPD’s Private and General, better
office space and more free beds.
• A state-of-the-art auditorium.
• A new block of modern designed operation theatres to replace existing
ones and a fully equipped post operative intensive care unit.

Academic
Committee :
The
hospital by 1997 had already achieved an enviable reputation of being
academically oriented. The National Board of examination recognised the
hospital for 13 specialities for DNB Courses, 3 more have been recognised
this year. The academic programme was streamlined and boosted by the creation
of a special Academic Committee under the dynamic Chairmanship of Dr.
K.C. Mahajan. A special academic room equipped with Computers, Video viewing
equipment and specialised journals, was started where students and faculty
could prepare the material for projection in the conferences, which they
attend. A complete med line service was made available through the hospital
network of computers, in addition to the existing excellent Library. Today
the Consultants of the hospital hold an enviable record of participation,
in various national and international meetings as invited guest faculty
members, orators and office bearers. The hospital is one of the few institutions
in the country selected for starting fellowship courses in the department
of Minimal Access Surgery and Vascular Surgery.
