It was a beautiful and hot summer day, when on Tuesday 24th of July representatives from the Ministry of Health (MoH) and GE Healthcare met at the famous Dolmabahçe Palace situated directly at the Bosporus, to sign a trend-setting healthcare IT contract which builds the base for future development in patient care in Istanbul and its surroundings. About 20 hospitals will be part of the network, which is planned to go live in November 2007. All members will archive and manage medical data and images even from outside a radiology department in one centralized Centricity PACS (Picture Archiving and Communication System). In the past, there was limited possibility to quickly share expert opinions about a patient’s health condition other than what was seen on the x-ray film. Today, doctors can share medical reports, images and data – filmless and paperless – throughout a hospital and among several healthcare enterprises. Right after the signing of the MoH contract the second event took place on the Asian side of the Bosporus. The brand new Florence Nightingale Kiziltoprak Hospital and GE Healthcare celebrated the go-live of GE Centricity RIS/PACS. The hospital only lately opened its doors in May 2007 and GE has fully equipped the hospital’s radiology needs with innovative diagnostic imaging equipment. The product portfolio ranging from MR (magnetic resonance) imaging with GE’s 3T MR Signa Excite HD to cardiac imaging with GE’s LightSpeed VCT to digital mammography and ultrasound imaging systems, the hospital is a good example of how GE Healthcare is able to meet a healthcare enterprise’s needs for modern IT solutions, medical devices and diagnostic imaging. |
