SpiroDynamics

GE Healthcare’s SpiroDynamics is a new bedside online tracheal pressure measurement system that allows tracheal pressure and intrinsic PEEP measurements to be monitored continuously, irrespective of ventilator settings.

Clinical benefits of tracheal pressure monitoring with SpiroDynamics

  • Ability to monitor tracheal pressure regardless of ventilator setting
  • Dynostatic curve providing estimated Alveolar pressure
  • Compliance measurement at the beginning, middle and end of a breath for better assessment of overdistention
  • Enhanced detection of intrinsic PEEP due to ventilator settings or secretions
  • Inflection points may be visually detected
  • Improved accuracy of ventilator setting based on patient compliance data gathered during the breath cycle

Tracheal pressure can be measured by SpiroDynamics, regardless of ventilator setting

SpiroDynamics is similar to Spirometry in that a P/V loop is created and analyzed by the user. The measurements are captured with a newly designed 2-mm (OD) sensor that can be used with standard endotracheal and tracheostomy tubes. Designed in the same manner as a closed suction sensor, GE’s new disposable sensor is simple to insert, attaches directly to the Engström Carestation and is continuously urged using a bias flow to help ensure that it remains open.
