The Tonometrics Catheter with biofilter and sampling line is used for the determination of gastric PCO2 (PgCO2) and intramucosal pH (pHi) of the gastric mucosal tissue. All catheters are based on the same principle including a gas-permeable silicone balloon. Carbon dioxide freely equilibrates between the gastrointestinal wall, the lumen and the content of the balloon. A sample is drawn from the balloon and the PgCO2 is analyzed automatically with GE Healthcare Tonometry Monitors (Tonocap or Tonometry Module).
