GE’s $100M healthymagination challenge
GE’s healthymagination Challenge is an open call to action seeking ideas to accelerate early detection and enable more personalized treatment for breast cancer.
Through the challenge, GE and its venture partners will award up to $100 million to fund breakthrough ideas that advance early detection, more accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment of breast cancer.
Accelerating breast cancer diagnostic innovation
Understanding the complexity of breast cancer, the healthymagination Challenge will be separated into multiple phases. The initial phase of the Challenge will focus on two areas:
1. Breast cancer pathways: Map breast cancer pathways independent of classic hormone dependent signaling and how those pathways relate to “triple negative” breast cancer (her 2, estrogen and progesterone receptor negative) – identify possible diagnostics and potential targeted treatments.
2. Molecular similarities between tumors: Map the molecular/proteomic similarities between breast cancer and other solid tumors especially as it relates to the establishment of a tissue independent classification of cancer and pathway centric therapeutic intervention
We are seeking innovative solutions to improve identification of effective therapies and diagnostic tools based on an individual’s unique tumor, as well as innovations that uncover cancer tumor similarities at a molecular level - helping guide the development of improved therapies.
The first phase of the Challenge is open till November 20, with winners being announced in Q1 2012. You can submit your innovative solutions at healthymagination.com/challenge. GE and its VC partners will also plan to launch a second phase of the healthymagination Challenge in early 2012.
