Clinical Background

  • 72-year-old male patient who underwent a 5-bypass surgery 30 days ago.
  • Phlebitis symptoms during post-surgery rehabilitation and pulmonary scientigraphy showed signs of moderated bilateral pulmonary embolism.
  • Cardiac CT required in order to check this suspicion.

Diagnosis
Pulmonary Embolism Study

  • Thrombus in the left inferior and superior lobes and in the right inferior lobe.
  • No thrombus in the pulmonary trunk and in the right and lesfr branches of the pulmonary arteries. No noticeable thrombus in the left ventricle and superior vena cava.
  • Coronary Study: The bypass grafts are patent.
  • Lung Study: No pericardial and pleural effusion but breathing disorder.

Scan Technique

  • Detector Configuration: 64 x 0.625 mm at 40 mm coverage per rotation
  • Total Scan Time: 7.7 sec
  • Rotation Speed: 0.35 sec
  • Pitch: 0.26:1
  • Scan Coverage: 238 mm
  • Contrast: 80 cc @ 5 cc/sec iodine contrast media, 40 cc @ 3 cc/s flush
