Crohn's disease follow-up Ultra Low dose CT exam :

Patient history

20 year old patient, who is followed regularly for Crohn's disease. An Entero MR exam was initially planned but was not performed as the patient was claustrophobic.

Technique

The Abdomen/Pelvis CT exam was performed on the Discovery CT750 HD. Low-dose parameter settings were used (70 to 84 mAs, 120 kV, 1.375 pitch, ASiR image reconstruction) for the Abdomen and Pelvis scan (360 mm coverage). Resulting dose was estimated to be 3.2 mSv* (DLP= 192 mGy.cm).

* Obtained using EUR-16262 EN with abdomen factor of DLP*0.015 and a pelvis factor of DLP*0.019

Findings

Crohn's disease Crohn's disease

An Ileitis of the small bowel was found.

Conclusion

“Using the GE Discovery CT750 HD it was possible to reduce the DOSE by 50% on a Crohn’s disease examination of the Abdomen and Pelvis. This provided an excellent alternative to MR for this young and claustrophobic patient who requires follow-up. The Impact of reducing the total dose by 50% is significant in this case.”
