CT Perfusion

CT Application Option: CT Perfusion 4 : Neuro Package

CT Perfusion allows the user to process dynamic image data and generate functional perfusion parameters based on changes in image absorption over time during the injection of a contrast bolus. The functional maps are calculated in absolute values, so that an intra-patient or inter-patient comparison between different hospitals and scanners is finally achievable.

In addition to the established use of GE Healthcare’s CT Perfusion in the emergency setting for assessment of stroke patients, it has also been used in other applications where absolute quantification of the perfusion parameters is essential.

CT Perfusion

Overall benefits

  • Non-invasive diagnosis of brain perfusion
  • Arterial inflow and venous outflow analysis for the parametric image
  • Easy evaluation through color functional maps of the cerebral and oncologic hemodynamic parameters
  • Tracking drug therapy for hyper vascular tumors
  • Low dose-scan parameters

CT Perfusion CT Perfusion

Specificity of CT Perfusion 4 : Neuro Package

  • Tissue Classification Index: Provides a thresholding algorithm that aids clinicians in determining status of the tissue based on Blood Volume and Blood Flow maps
  • Exclusion of large vessel in brain stroke.
  • Configurable displays in all views… functional maps, time series graphs or original images can be displayed in any view ports
  • 4D ROI statistics… allows to display multi-location ROI with time-varying position
  • Productivity enhancements:
    • Robust automated vessel detection for artery and vein curves definition
    • Background maps computation
    • Time stamps on functional maps and ROIs for better data management and tracking
    • Manual as well as automated protocols based on simplified user interface

Clinical Cases

The two following cases demonstrate the role Functional imaging has in the assessment of brain disease. By providing a biomarker of tumour angiogenesis, CT perfusion is useful in assessing tumour activity. It also provides quantitative measurement for stroke assessment.
