“Thank-you for the info on quitting smoking. I just printed
it all out and I can honestly say I have never read info that
made me feel like I can do it this time. I was in the hospital
in 2002 and had an angioplasty w/stent. I'm now on disability
due to arthritis and degenerative discs. After the 2002 event
I quit for 4 months, but living with a smoker (chimney) I eventually
started again, and now I even smoke more than I did back then.
But...guess what? It's my time now! THANK-YOU, BLESS YOU!!!”

"The Patient Channel is a frequently preferred teaching method . The channel number is posted in rooms and tools are available for the patient to write questions for review at a follow up learning session. The healthcare professional has a good assessment of the patients learning needs by the questions that arise from viewing the broadcast. The Patient Channel adds scheduling flexibility and the ability to prescribe an individualized learning care plan!"

"We have been extremely pleased with the programming on The
Patient Channel. The content has provided patients with valuable
information about their medical concerns and care. We're really
looking forward to the closed captioning this year so that our
special population of hearing impaired patients can also take
advantage of this unique educational opportunity, while helping
our organization meet new state guidelines" |

"I now know what is normal and what isn't and also the segment
on having the baby latching on was extremely helpful. I am so
appreciative that this information was available for me in the
hospital when I needed it. I look forward to discussing information
I learned from the programming with my physician at my next
appointment." |

"We have been very satisfied with the Patient Education Channel. We used to have our own home grown Patient Education channel. It was very cumbersome and difficult to keep up to date. Your service has allowed us to better serve our patients and, by the way, comply with JCAHO standards. I was working with one patient who was to be instructed in insulin injections. She had a lot of apprehension, watched one of the programs on Diabetes and told me that she felt if that a young person could take care of himself, so could she."

"We see the 'Patient Channel' as an excellent way to support
the ongoing efforts of our nurses and staff members to help
our patients understand their medical conditions, and the treatment
they will receive. The more patients and their family and friends
know, the more they can actively participate in the healing
process. The 'Patient Channel' helps inform and educate them."

"What makes this so useful is that the Patient Channel
complements other sources of patient education provided by the
hospital staff. It also gives family members and friends of
the patients access to information that lessens confusion. Family
and friends are better able to help the patient follow his or
her care directions. Anytime patients have access to quality
information that allows them to work on their care in tandem
with their health care providers, everyone benefits. The Patient
Channel will provide answers and information about many concerns."

"The programs give our patients valuable information and
serve as a way for us to be more effective in providing patients
with the education they need to manage their illness. The Patient
Channel sets Daviess Community Hospital apart, because it's
a service unique to hospitals and medical centers. More importantly,
it's an additional way we can, as the community's hospital,
provide patients and their families with more health education.
By doing that, we are fulfilling our mission to improve the
health of our community." |

"I recommended that our hospital sign up for The Patient
Channel because it fits well with our existing practices. These
programs are a great starting point for providing health information
basics and encouraging questions. The concept fits with JCAHO
recommendations and with our own policy to increase interaction
with patients and their families." |

"The Patient Channel's content is credible and meets standards
of practice. Staff can use the channel as a reinforcement mechanism
for patient education and they are not taxed with authoring
the content themselves - which always costs time and money.
Television is a medium that many people prefer over Internet
searches, reading, or demonstrations. The opportunity to watch
the same information at different replay times helps reinforce
the content. In addition, TV is an information medium that many
people have in their homes and are very comfortable with. Relatives
and friends also now have an alternative viewing choice in outpatient
waiting rooms. It gives more choices to patients, relatives
and friends."

"The Patient Channel is an asset to us. This is an awesome
resource for our patients. It really touches each of the five
key service components for us: Customer, Quality, Culture, Community
and Finance. And it's already saving me. I got a call from a
nurse who was looking for a videotape for one of her patients
- a child - who had just been diagnosed with diabetes. Her patient
was concerned about how his life would change. I told the nurse
about a program on The Patient Channel called "Restricting
Diabetes: Taking Control" that talks about diet and exercise.
So all she needed to do was turn to channel 59 on the TV in
the patient room. I'm also presenting the Patient Channel at
our next Patient Advisory Team meeting so that nurses from each
department know what programs are available and where to find
the broadcast schedule. Our Intranet Web site also includes
a link to the Patient Channel's daily schedule so it's available
at all of the nurses' stations."

"The brochure and video I received were excellent. They
gave me the suitable information I needed to evaluate the channel
and the programming. The content looked excellent and with no
cost to us, it was an easy decision {to accept The Patient Channel
upgrade}."
