Eric Stahre, General Manager and Technology Leader, Genomics and Molecular Imaging
Hello! I'm Eric Stahre, General Manager for Genomics and Molecular Imaging at GE Medical Systems. Welcome to this year’s RSNA show!
Molecular imaging represents the cutting-edge of medical technology. Today, physicians can be frustrated because current detection and treatment of disease can be late stage ... later than they would prefer and with limited treatment options. At GE, we are exploring the world of Molecular Medicine - which may completely change patient management.
GE Medical Systems is teaming up with leaders in the areas of novel therapeutics and novel contrast agents to bring physicians new means of diagnosing and treating disease ... earlier and more personalized. Today, GE offers the most extensive portfolio of high-resolution, high-sensitivity clinical scanners in the industry: leadership PET/CT, leadership SPECT/CT, leadership 3 Tesla MR. For tomorrow, GE is actively developing imaging capabilities that combine the latest developments in targeted diagnostic chemistry with advanced informatics.
GE Medical Systems is establishing cooperations and alliances with biotech and pharmaceutical companies and building inter-disciplinary teams to aggressively pursue transforming the promise of Molecular Medicine into a reality.
A great example of this is the comprehensive agreement with GlaxoSmithKline to co-develop molecular imaging in concert with the development of predictive medicine. Our first collaborative project aims to advance the diagnosis and treatment of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) --- fast becoming the 3rd leading killer globally. COPD (chronic bronchitis, emphysema and small airway disease) is characterized by debilitating shortness of breath. It's under diagnosed and more tragic, under treated. If we can diagnose COPD earlier using advanced imaging informatics, drugs which are more effective the earlier they're prescribed, have the best chance to reach patients before this disease takes its devastating toll.
You'll see more examples in the future as GE Medical's Genomics and Molecular Imaging team work to bridge the gap between genetic and anatomical information. Down the road, linking imaging information with genetic and protein data will have the potential to help chronic disease professionals diagnose disease earlier, individualize treatment and confirm the efficacy of treatment - nothing short of a revolution in health care delivery.
We hope that you will take the time to stop by our booth, as well as read through the materials and become more familiar with the exciting developments in Molecular Imaging at GE Medical Systems. Enjoy the show!
