Thomas Hook, General Manager, Global PET
Hello! I'm Thomas Hook, General Manager for Global Positron Emission Tomography at GE Medical Systems. Welcome to this year's RSNA Show!
Today, GE Medical Systems is the first and only diagnostic imaging company to offer a complete line of fused imaging products. Featured are: the GE Discovery LS, The Discovery VH, and The GE Millennium VG Hawkeye. The GE Discovery LS, our premium PET/CT system, delivers a true hybrid image in 1/2 the time of traditional PET scanners, without repositioning the patient. Discovery LS combines the most sophisticated CT scanner available today, the GE LightSpeed Plus, with the most advanced PET system, the GE Advance NXi. Customer demand has exceeded our expectations and we will install 40 units by the end of this year!
The GE Discovery LS allows doctors to see significantly more information about the extent and location of the disease. Medical professionals can then determine the best course of treatment to help increase a patient's chances of survival. GE Medical Systems expects more than 100 Discovery units installed in the next three years.
Next in the Discovery Series is the Discovery VH, the only multi-purpose PET/SPECT/CT system available today. Featuring a specially designed one-inch crystal, this innovative technology provides physicians with high-energy resolution without compromising low energy sensitivity. The Discovery VH builds on the technological strengths of the GE Millennium VG Hawkeye and features a variety of software options, including improved tumor localization and attenuation correction offerings.
In the area of PET chemistry, GE Medical is proud to announce the recent acquisition of Coincidence Technologies, the leader in the design, development and manufacturing of synthesis and handling units for PET radiopharmaceuticals. This acquisition, coupled with GE's industry leading cyclotrons, the PETtrace and MINItrace, means that GE now offers all the tracer production tools needed for customers to set-up both PET distribution facilities and clinical sites. This strategic acquisition will accelerate research and development of projects focused on handling PET compounds beyond FDG. It is a great addition to GE's range of product offerings, and it provides a very strong foundation for tomorrow's molecular imaging chemistries.
We hope that you will take the time to stop by our booth and become more familiar with the exciting developments in functional and molecular imaging at GE Medical Systems. Enjoy the show!
