GE Healthcare's VIVID 4 Ultrasound System Offers Shared Service to Improve Clinical Workflow

NEW ORLEANS – GE Healthcare showcased today VIVID 4, the newest member of GE’s VIVID family, at the American College of Cardiology annual meeting held in New Orleans. VIVID 4 brings leading innovations to clinical practices for cardiovascular, shared services, and monitoring applications.

“Once again GE has added very practical features to the widely known and unique VIVID 3 system. Software developments have increased my work speed and efficiency to an incredibly high level of functionality,” said Dr. W. Fehske, Chief of Internal Medicine & Cardiology, St. Vinzenz Hospital, Cologne, Germany. “The VIVID 4 incorporates Tissue Velocity Imaging (TVI) features, and Stress Echo Recording, which can be done with an outstanding speed, flexibility and image quality.”

The VIVID 4 provides diagnostic power to clinical practices in areas such as cardiac, vascular, pediatrics, surgical monitoring, abdominal and OB/GYN. The design of VIVID 4 incorporates feedback obtained from over 3,000 VIVID 3 customers worldwide, with innovative technology migrated from the leadership ultrasound systems.

“The GE Vivid 4 has been an excellent addition to our Cardiovascular Anesthesia practice. The measurement software for processing hemodynamic data is excellent and easy to use. In addition, the storage of digital loops directly on the Vivid 4 has enabled us to quickly show saved images to surgeons without re-performing a TEE exam or rewinding video tape,” said Mark A Taylor, M.D., Dept of Anesthesia, University of Pittsburgh Medical Center-Presbyterian Hospital. “ We also have been utilizing the digital storage functions to save studies on a CD format and providing copies of complete TEE studies to both referring surgeons as well as referring cardiologists. The Vivid 4 has allowed us to increase our professional presence as a consulting physician and provide a valuable intraoperative service.

Taylor added, “The greatest benefits of the Vivid 4 are the excellent hemodynamic measurement software and the digital storage and data retrieval capabilities that enable us to share studies with referring physicians.”

The VIVID 4 offers a value-based combination of proven technology and cutting-edge innovations such as real time Tissue Tracking, high frame rates for 2D and color imaging, six levels of harmonics and SmartStress, that helps shorten stress echo test time. The VIVID 4 also features the company’s new MPEGvue for enhanced connectivity and remote consultation. This new feature allows physicians to save patient images directly onto a CD in MPEG formats for an easy transferal and remote viewing of full patient records.

The VIVID 4 utilizes GE’s newest operating platform, TruScan Architecture. This software-intense operating system not only drives the VIVID 4, but the entire VIVID family and has innovative, GE-exclusive components that improve the speed, quality and safety of ultrasound exams, including:

Coded Harmonics – The VIVID 4 ensures definition of the LV endocardial borders while maintaining crisp valve structures for cardiac imaging. Excellent near field image quality and far field penetration with multi-frequency transducers for shared service applications.

ComfortScan – Unique ergonomic design provides a new level of operator comfort and convenience.

VScan – The VIVID 4 is supported by 18 different transducers for the broadest array of applications, and guarantees unmatched performance and versatility for daily clinical routines.

TruAccess – The power of “raw data” provides new options in processing, reconstructing, storing, and sharing images. A comprehensive patient database & information management system and the full DICOM support provides uncompromised connectivity solutions

The VIVID 4 is a benchmark system for clinical practices as this new product offers excellent ergonomics designs equipped with vertical and swivel keyboard adjustments, high resolution, high contrast 17-inch display monitor and intuitive control panel and user interface.
