NEW MEDICAL TECHNOLOGY DEBUTS ON “ER” TONIGHT

WAUKESHA, Wis. - Tonight’s episode of NBC’s “ER” will debut a new, lifesaving medical technology for diagnosing and treating heart and vascular diseases. The episode provides a “sneak peak” of an upcoming technology, which is a first-of-its-kind system from GE Healthcare (NYSE: GE) that will become available to hospitals and physicians in mid-2004.

“Using real-life medical technology is one of the things that makes ER an award-winning program,” said Julie Herbert, ER Producer. “Beyond the drama that has made the program a ‘must see’ for years, our storylines address the nation’s most prevalent medical issues, such as heart disease, through the lives of the program’s characters.”

The technology, GE’s Innova® 3100, is an advance in medical imaging that allows physicians to see the vessels and anatomy inside the heart, as well as the finest vessels all the way to the fingertips. In reality, Innova 3100 will not only be used to save lives in emergency situations, but will also play a critical role in treating chronic heart and vascular conditions such as atherosclerosis - a build-up of plaque that affects blood flow in arteries.

Cardiovascular diseases affect more than 64 million people and represent the leading cause of death of men and women in the United States. For more information about the warning signs and prevention of cardiovascular disease, visit American Heart Association’s website at www.americanheart.org
