New All-Digital Heart Hospital to Feature GE's Clinical Information System and Advanced Cardiovascular Technology for Latest Patient Care

“Hospital of the future” design will support quality care and efficiency through paperless, filmless workflow and electronic patient records

ORLANDO, Fla. – Early next year, heart patients in and around Tulsa, Okla., will be able to receive treatment at one of the most advanced, all-digital heart hospitals in the world.

The 52-bed, state-of-the-art Saint Francis Heart Hospital, scheduled to open in spring 2004, will be the first fully integrated, all-digital facility in Oklahoma run completely with technology from GE Medical Systems. The hospital and adjoining medical office building are being built as a result of a partnership between Saint Francis Health System and cardiovascular specialists in northeast Oklahoma.

“The ‘hospital of the future’ design of Saint Francis Heart Hospital will help clinicians deliver a new level of care for cardiovascular disease by eliminating paper- and film-based medical records and offering the latest in cardiovascular diagnostic monitoring and imaging technologies,” said Dow Wilson, president and CEO of GE Medical Systems Information Technologies. “Our goal is to have patient information travel at least as fast as the patient throughout their healthcare experience. We are working to significantly improve patient care by giving physicians access to critical patient data when and where it’s needed – rather than having it locked away on films or paper charts. We are pleased to be able to provide the breakthrough devices and information systems that will enable the fundamental enhancements to patient care and clinical workflow that will be experienced at Saint Francis Heart Hospital.”

Robert S. Dolan, CEO of Saint Francis Heart Hospital commented, “We are gathering a team of professionals who are dedicated to superior customer service and leadership in cardiovascular patient-focused, family-centered care. The partners of Saint Francis Heart Hospital determined that a fully digital environment should be an integral component of their care plan strategy. Merging cardiovascular expertise and new generation informatics in a facility that focuses solely on heart care will enhance the patient experience and change the way cardiovascular care is delivered in northeast Oklahoma.”

The hospital’s digital workflow will be built around GE’s Centricity™ Clinical Information System, which integrates patient information from every care area and every procedure into a single electronic medical record. The Centricity Information System at Saint Francis Heart Hospital will cover all aspects of care, including computerized physician order entry (CPOE), cardiology, perioperative, pharmacy, and laboratory.

GE will also supply its advanced Cardiology Cath Lab suite of technology, including the Innova 2000 and Innova 4100, the world’s leading all digital diagnostic equipment for the Cath lab; Mac-Lab hemodynamic monitoring technology; and Centricity Enterprise Picture Archiving and Communications System (PACS) for viewing, storing and managing both cardiology and radiology diagnostic images. Also featured at the facility will be GE’s MUSE cardiology information system.
