GE RECEIVES FDA CLEARANCE FOR ADVANCED CARDIOLOGY TECHNOLOGY THAT INTEGRATES INFORMATION FROM PATIENTS’ HEART STUDIES INTO AN ELECTRONIC MEDICAL RECORD
Advanced technology designed to help clinicians increase productivity, make more confident diagnoses and decrease reporting time
ORLANDO, Fla.– GE Medical Systems Information Technologies, the healthcare IT business of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), announced today that it has received clearance from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for its advanced cardiology technology that will give clinicians access to more complete patient information than ever before when performing heart diagnostic studies.
The new technology, called Mac-Lab® IT and CardioLab® IT, from GE Medical Systems Information Technologies helps clinicians work more efficiently, make more confident diagnoses and reduce the risk of errors. The technology seamlessly links GE's Mac-Lab (hemodynamics), and CardioLab (electrophysiology) systems with the Centricity® Cardiology Information System.
Besides collecting, displaying and storing information during procedures, the technology enables clinicians to go back after a procedure to easily analyze the data and create reports that help in streamlining scheduling, managing inventory, controlling costs, and improving long-term cath lab performance.
Robert T. Davis, Jr., general manager of Americas Cardiology Sales and Marketing for GE Medical Systems, noted, "Bringing the information technology component into the cath lab will give clinicians unprecedented speed and efficiency in their clinical workflow and administrative reporting. They’ll have faster and more convenient access to all relevant information about their patients."
"When the procedure is over, the data will be automatically captured electronically – there’ll be no need to go back and manually transfer data from the cath lab devices to the information system. The technology acquires, stores and manages data the clinical IT way. Like the best software, it allows users to make queries, choose report formats, analyze information, and make data-driven decisions. It's exciting to bring these technologies together to provide a clinical solution that’s unlike anything else available in the marketplace,” added Davis.
Olathe Medical Center in Olathe, Kan., has reviewed the latest version of the Centricity Cardiology information system and sees potential for the new cath lab technologies to improve patient care and productivity.
"These technologies mean more expedient diagnosis and care because the physician has more immediate access to all of the data for a specific patient at all times," said Lucretia Craig, director of imaging services at Olathe Medical Center. "There’s going to be greater patient satisfaction as the level of care increases."
The technology consists of three products – Mac-Lab IT and CardioLab IT – both powered by the Centricity Cardiology information system. Each offering comes with core functionality to which users can add a variety of optional capabilities to suit their specific needs. Mac-Lab IT and CardioLab IT are additions to GE’s line of industry-leading cath lab and electrophysiology technology, which includes the Mac-Lab 7000, CardioLab 7000 and ComboLab 7000 to meet the needs of a variety of healthcare providers. The new systems link seamlessly with the Centricity Clinical Information System, the technology that creates patients electronic medical record.
