GE Medical Systems Introduces Next Level of Echocardiography: The VIVID 7 Vantage Release

ORLANDO, Fla. – GE Medical Systems today announced the introduction of its next generation VIVID 7 Cardiac Ultrasound System. The new system, called VIVID 7 Vantage, expands the benefits of the VIVID 7 Cardiac Ultrasound System, released at the ASE meeting in Las Vegas in June 2003.

The new release features GE’s exclusive Tissue Synchronization Imaging (TSI), which provides clinicians with fast and easy-to-use parametric imaging to help manage heart failure patients who are candidates for, or who are undergoing Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT).

Recent studies demonstrate the clinical benefits of Cardiac Resynchronization Therapy (CRT), including improved heart failure symptoms, quality-of-life, exercise capacity, and left ventricular (LV) systolic performance. However, critical to improving the cost effectiveness of this technique is the development of better quantitative and qualitative tools capable of predicting response to the therapy before implantation. TSI has emerged as a tool that may help physicians.

“Tissue synchronization imaging is a very exciting new tool for quantification of mechanical LV asynchrony that may facilitate the process of selecting potential candidates for CRT,” said Peter Sogaard, M.D., DMSc, Aarhus University Hospitals.

TSI works by employing a simple-to-use “red light/green light” approach, which provides visualization of the extent of myocardium with delayed peak velocity. This at-a-glance assessment helps determine whether additional quantitative research is required before, during, or after CRT. As a screening tool, TSI can be used by the echocardiographer and the electrophysiologist in determining which heart failure patients should be considered for CRT therapy. In recent months, the excitement about TSI has grown tremendously. This past October at Mayo Clinic’s first annual Echocardiography meeting “From Pictures to Information” in Phoenix, many cardiologists were able to view this technology and experience its benefits first-hand.

TSI software is available as an option for the Vivid 7 Vantage release. The Vivid 7 Vantage release also includes:
  • TruSpeed Color Flow – increased frame rates for more physiological representation of blood flow.
  • Shared Services – general imaging and vascular performance migrated from Ultrasound’s flagship radiology system, the LOGIQ 9.
  • Quantification Tools – Tissue Velocity Imaging, Strain Imaging, and now Tissue Synchronization Imaging lead the way in quantification in the echo lab.
  • Productivity – enhanced EchoPAC reporting and raw data connectivity to increase your lab’s efficiency by reducing report generation time.
The Vivid 7 Vantage release can help patients and physicians reach the next level of echocardiography with its numerous image quality improvements, as well as workflow and productivity enhancements, advanced functionality, and even broader applications.
