GE Medical Systems and American Diagnostic Medicine Sign Exclusive Technology Agreement
Relationship to Bring the Leading Disease-Detecting Imaging Technology
to Healthcare Facilities and Patients Nationwide
CHICAGO, Ill. and WAUKESHA, Wis., - GE Medical Systems, a business of General Electric (NYSE: GE) and American Diagnostic Medicine (ADM), a leading provider of high-tech diagnostic imaging services, announced that the companies have signed an exclusive, multi-year agreement that will enable ADM healthcare customers with state-of-the-art imaging technology from GE. Under the agreement, which becomes effective on January 1, 2002, GE will provide more than 40 advanced positron emission tomography (PET) and fused imaging systems to ADM for physician groups, imaging centers and hospitals nationwide.

The agreement includes GE’s fused imaging system, Discovery™ LS, and GE’s sophisticated Advance™ NXi PET system. ADM has placed an initial order for six systems, which will be installed in healthcare facilities in California, Florida, Illinois and Texas.

GE Discovery Series of fused imaging systems represents one of the most significant technological advancements in medicine in the past 20 years according to healthcare experts. Discovery combines advanced PET and CT imaging technologies to produce both anatomical and metabolic information in a single patient exam.
Fused imaging can be compared to the images shown during a television weather report. A PET scanner shows concentrations of abnormal cells in a color spectrum just as weather radar shows varying concentrations of precipitation. The anatomical image generated by the simultaneous CT scan acts as the "map" showing doctors precisely where the disease is located. The Discovery Series, like television radar, combines information from two systems, PET and CT, to pinpoint activity and location fused into one image.
