Medical Professionals Report Significant Productivity & Patient Satisfaction Benefits With GE Senographe 2000D Full-Field Digital Mammography System

CHICAGO- Health care professionals report significant productivity and patient benefits based on the use of the GE Senographe® 2000D full-field digital mammography system.

According to input and data from women’s health facilities across the country, advantages of the Senographe 2000D include significant reductions in call back rates, image retakes and exam times, and sizeable increases in patient volume and patient satisfaction.

For patients, benefits of the GE full-field digital mammography system translate into less time on a waiting list to have a mammogram, less exam time and less anxiety between the time of the exam and reporting of the results.

GE was the first company to introduce full-field digital mammography for patient use. In two years after its official debut, more than 250 systems have been installed worldwide and the GE Senographe 2000D full-field digital mammography system has imaged over one million women in 20 countries.

The GE Senographe 2000D has revolutionized patient care by reducing patient exam time by half and displaying high quality patient images in seconds, providing technologists with quick verification of correct patient positioning.

Commenting on the GE Senographe 2000D, Darlene Weyer, D.O., Medical Director of the Women’s Health Center for Lima Memorial Health System, said “We are able to examine 38 percent more patients on average with the GE Senographe 2000D. This increase has been especially important for us and for patients because of the growing demand for mammography and this new digital technology,” said Weyer.

In addition, medical institutions report significantly less patient time in the exam room. For example, a study completed at the Women’s Health Center in Lima revealed a 60 percent reduction in this area.

The Senographe 2000D has also helped reduce call backs by 20 percent in some health care organizations, and resulted in reduction of image retakes of up to 84 percent.

“Time and productivity benefits of GE’s full-field digital mammography have been tremendous,” said Dr. Debra Mitchell, Director of Breast Imaging at the University of Oklahoma Institute for Breast Health. “In addition, the GE Senographe 2000D provides consistent image quality, and the ability to manipulate and further examine a portion of the breast on screen has been a major advantage,” said Dr. Mitchell.

In fact, many doctors using GE’s digital full-field mammography express a preference for on-screen display and review because of image manipulation capabilities, allowing them to "zoom" in and enhance images, so they can see the difference in contrast between a lesion and surrounding tissues.

"Digital mammography is helping many medical institutions save valuable time and money while providing the latest technical benefits to patients,” said Samantha Allison, General Manager of Women’s Healthcare for GE Medical Systems. “Physicians and administrators across North and South America are excited about the Senographe 2000D because it provides a wide range of benefits of a total digital solution, from image acquisition, to image review, to image archiving,” said Allison.
