GE Medical Systems Reveals New Ultrasound Processing Technology
TruScan Architecture foundation for two new Ultrasound products
MILWAUKEE, Wis.- GE Medical Systems today introduced an exciting new advance in ultrasound imaging technology, TruScan Architecture. TruScan Architecture is the foundation for two new Ultrasound products from GE Medical, the LOGIQ 9 and LOGIQ 7.
TruScan architecture is a software-intensive, ultrasound-imaging platform that provides physicians with excellent computational power, image manipulation capability, workflow flexibility and product upgradeability.

The software-intensive platform creates a flexible imaging environment that is easy to upgrade," said Omar Ishrak, Vice President and General Manager of GE Medical Systems Ultrasound business. "By leveraging GE's quality initiatives and customer input, we have designed a product that will deliver new clinical innovation as well as revolutionize Ultrasound workflow.”

Lyons, MD, Professor of Radiology and Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada, said, "The first thing I noticed about the new LOGIQ 9 is the user-friendly design. The new LOGIQ 9 and LOGIQ 7 systems feature four new technology advancements including:
· TruAccess utilizes raw data digital processing throughout the entire ultrasound study - from the acquisition of raw data to digital viewing and finally to storage of data in its purest, digital form. With this new capability, physicians can now optimize an image after it is stored.
· SmartScan utilizes new advances in adaptive processing techniques to improve patient management with tools such as 3D imaging and on-board image management display.
· ComfortScan leverages Six Sigma to create a user-friendly scanning environment for Ultrasound users.
“I’m really excited about the new LOGIQ 9 for several reasons, including its ease of use,” said Brian Garra, Professor of Radiology, University of Vermont, Fletcher Allen Health Care. “The new LOGIQ 9 also has great 3D imaging capability, which is typically hard and time consuming. Since working with the LOGIQ 9, I’ve begun to see how 3D imaging can be applied in everyday scanning.”
GE also introduced new echocardiography systems earlier this year that utilize the same TruScan Architecture.
Both the LOGIQ 9 and LOGIQ 7 provide excellent image quality and productivity in a more ergonomic design. The systems help to improve image quality with better image resolution and the ability to store data in its true raw form. By storing the data in its raw form, there is no loss of image quality. In addition, the floating user interface can be moved to allow operators to personalize their workspace and maximize operator comfort. The two products are available on different price points.
The LOGIQ 9 and LOGIQ 7 represent examples of GE's commitment to developing and introducing cutting edge applications annually. 2001 marks the sixth annual Breakthrough announcement in Ultrasound from the company.
