GE Medical Systems Ranked First In Product And Technology Development

Pavilion to Provide RSNA Attendees a Glimpse into the Future

CHICAGO, Ill. and WAUKESHA, Wis.- GE Medical Systems, a unit of General Electric Company (NYSE: GE), today was awarded the number one ranking for “Product/Technology Positioning for the Future” in the 2001 Medical Imaging Magazine Readers’ Choice Awards.

This is the sixth year that Medical Imaging’s subscribers rated 57 medical imaging, diagnostic and therapeutic equipment manufacturers along with companies doing business in accessories, information systems and the pharmaceutical industry. The survey was developed in conjunction with nationally recognized reader research firm Readex, Inc. of Stillwater, Minnesota.

“It is an honor to once again be judged best in class,” said Joseph M. Hogan, President and CEO of GE Medical Systems. “What makes the Medical Imaging recognition so meaningful is the fact that physicians, technologists and administrators are putting their trust not only in the equipment that we manufacture today, but also in our future technologies.”

GE Medical Systems is providing a unique look at the future of medical technology for healthcare providers attending the Radiological Society of North America (RSNA) annual meeting this week at the McCormick Place Convention Center in Chicago. A special Technology Pavilion, located within GE’s RSNA exhibit, will feature presentations and interactive demonstrations that represent medical technologies of the future under evaluation today at GE.

“The Technology Pavilion gives our customers the unique opportunity to directly interact with engineers, scientists and designers,” said Gene Saragnese, Vice President and General Manager of GE Medical Systems’ Global Technology Operation. “This display represents our vision of the future, pushing the limits of technology to provide customers with better information, faster and more efficiently.”

The GE Technology Pavilion features some of the latest concepts in magnetic resonance imaging, computed tomography, positron emission tomography, diagnostic X-ray, ultrasound, information technology and service. Through presentations and hands-on activities, customers are able to see, hear and feel the future of medicine. GE scientists and engineers will be on hand to present information and answer questions.

“Using Six Sigma methodologies, we have combined input from customers with the concepts of engineers and scientists at GE Medical Systems and GE’s Corporate Research and Development facility,” said Scott Donnelly, Senior Vice President of GE Corporate Research and Development, Schenectady, N.Y. “Visitors will be able to discuss and think about how imaging and information in the future may help save more patients’ lives.”

The RSNA annual meeting continues through Thursday, November 29.

In addition to the “Product/Technology positioning for the future” award, GE Medical Systems was ranked number one by Medical Imaging subscribers in three other categories: Business management, Ability to capitalize on new and niche markets, and Internal company leadership.
