GE Medical Systems and echelon Sign an Exclusive Agreement
to Provide Online Education through PETech Series
ORLANDO, Fla. - GE Medical Systems and echelon, a division of Florida Hospital College, today announced at the inaugural Academy of Molecular Imaging show an exclusive agreement to develop, administer, and market ongoing online educational programs through the PETech Series, a worldwide offering available exclusively through GE Medical. These revolutionary educational offerings will meet current and future customer needs for enhanced understanding of positron emission tomography (PET) technology and its clinical applications.
"We are pleased to enable this online educational opportunity for PET technologists around the world,” said Dow Wilson, Global General Manager of Functional and Molecular Imaging for GE Medical Systems. “By providing physicians with well-trained technologists, productivity will be improved through increased throughput, reduced patient wait time, and ultimately better images and studies for physicians’ use in diagnosis.”
The PETech Series’ blended delivery format combines web-based modules with intensive in-residence training to provide continuing education credits to those who take the course. The first PETech Series will take place in February 2002.
“We welcome the partnership with GE Medical Systems to provide quality learning experiences for nuclear medicine technologists,” said Dr. David E. Greenlaw, President and CEO of Florida Hospital College of Health Sciences. “The PETech Series will offer the Nuclear Medicine Technologists several hours of online education and multi-day onsite ‘shadowing’ experience at Florida Hospital in Orlando, Florida, one of GE Medical’s premier PET installation sites. We are confident that our blended learning approach will provide technologists the expertise they need to give the patient the best care possible.”
This agreement will leverage GE Medical’s leadership in PET technology and applications with echelon’s expertise in educational design and delivery.
“Physicians tell us that the PETech Series fills a void in PET education, by providing a unique opportunity for nuclear medicine technologists to enhance their knowledge by attending a certified PET program,” said Wilson. “Furthermore, the PETech Series provides online access to PET educational material, exposure to the latest clinical applications, and networking opportunities with other members of the PET community.”
