Michael J. Dowling
President and CEO, North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System
Mr. Dowling is president and chief executive officer of the North Shore-Long Island Jewish (LIJ) Health System. Prior to becoming president and CEO on Jan. 1, 2002, he served as North Shore-LIJ's executive vice president and chief operating officer, and earlier as senior vice president of hospital services. He came to the North Shore-LIJ Health System in July 1995 from Empire Blue Cross/Blue Shield, where he was a senior vice president. Mr. Dowling served in New York State government for 12 years, including two years as commissioner of social services. He was a long-time chief advisor to former New York Governor Mario Cuomo on health and human services issues. Earlier, Mr. Dowling was a professor of social policy and an assistant dean of the Fordham University Graduate School of Social Services. He started his career as a caseworker in New York City schools. He earned his master's degree from Fordham University, and undergraduate degrees from University College in Cork, Ireland.
Jeffrey R. Immelt
Chairman and CEO, General Electric Corporation
Jeffrey R. Immelt is Chairman of the Board and Chief Executive Officer of GE. Previously, Mr. Immelt served as President and Chairman-elect of GE from November 2000, when GE's Board of Directors selected him to succeed John F. Welch. From 1997 to 2000, Immelt had been President and CEO of GE Medical Systems. He began his GE career in 1982, and following a brief assignment with Corporate Marketing, held a series of leadership roles with GE Plastics in sales, marketing and global product management. Mr. Immelt joined GE Appliances in 1989 as Vice President of Consumer Service, and in 1991 was named Vice President of Worldwide Marketing and Product Management. He rejoined GE Plastics in 1992 as Vice President & General Manager of GE Plastics-Americas Commercial Division. A year later, he was named Vice President & General Manager of GE Plastics Americas. Mr. Immelt holds a B.S. degree in Applied Mathematics from Dartmouth College (1978) and an MBA from Harvard University (1982).
Paul J. Mirabella
President & CEO, GE Medical Systems Healthcare Services
Mr. Mirabella is president and CEO of GE Medical Systems Healthcare Services. Previously he served as president and CEO of GE Medical Systems Americas, with responsibility for the U.S., Latin American and Canadian markets. Mr. Mirabella joined GE Medical Systems in 1976 as a program manager for the emerging CT business and holds several patents. He then held a variety of engineering management positions from 1978 to 1983. In 1984, Mr. Mirabella became global manager of the company’s mid-tier CT products. In 1986, he was appointed manager, marketing ultrasound and was later promoted to general manager, global ultrasound. In 1989, Mr. Mirabella was appointed general manager, global CT and in 1992 was named general manager of global MR. Two years later he was promoted to vice president & general manager - Americas sales & marketing, including responsibility for sales & service in Latin America and Canada. Mirabella also currently runs the San Francisco Area Council, which encompasses responsibility for all the GE businesses in the Northern California area. He has a bachelor’s degree in aerospace engineering and applied mechanics from Polytechnic Institute of Brooklyn and a master’s in engineering. He also holds an MBA from the University of Wisconsin.
David A. Shore, PhD
Executive Director, Center for Continuing Professional Education at
Harvard University School of Public Health
David A. Shore is the Executive Director of the Center for Continuing Professional Education at Harvard University School of Public Health. He is also an Associate Dean and a member of the faculty. Dr. Shore received his doctoral degree from Southern Illinois University in health education and marketing, and he also holds an MPA in public health administration from Roosevelt University and a master’s degree in medical social work from the University of Chicago. He has 25 years of experience in continuing education in the health professions and is author more than 100 publications. Dr. Shore is a consultant to associations, medical societies, and health care provider organizations, and regularly serves as faculty for continuing medical education programs. He serves as Associate Editor of the Alliance for Continuing Medical Education and Chairs the Council on Continuing Professional Education of the Association of Schools of Public Health. Dr. Shore teaches the popular graduate course, Strategic Marketing: Gaining Competitive Advantage through Positioning and Branding at Harvard. For the past three years he has chaired the annual national conference on Branding, Positioning and Competitive Strategies in the Healthcare Industries.
